Virginia Tidal Freshwater Marshes | Learn & Grow Program

The tidal freshwater marshes of Virginia are some of the most bio-diverse in the world. Wildlife biologist Maeve Coker will dive into the unique types found in Virginia, describe their incredible value and ecosystem services, discuss threats to their integrity, and let viewers know where they can visit these beautiful plant communities in person.

About our speaker: Maeve Coker holds her bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology and currently works for the US Fish and Wildlife Service as a seasonal Biological Technician. Maeve is a life member of the Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society and serves as the Education Chair for the Statewide chapter of VNPS. She also is the Citizen Science Chair for Friends of Dragon Run, where she spearheads efforts to document the biodiversity found within the watershed. In the last few years Maeve has also taken on the task of collecting field specimens across the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck for the Flora of Virginia Project, expanding our knowledge of the floral diversity of the region.
